Main Purpose of the role
The Assistant Accountant will provide vital support to the finance team by preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, contributing to cash flow reporting and variance analysis. This role is key to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the smooth operation of day-to-day accounting activities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Assist in the reconciliation of bank statements, supplier and customer accounts, and other balance sheet items.
- Support the production of monthly and weekly cash flow reports, including the collection and analysis of relevant data.
- Help ensure all financial records are accurate, up to date, and compliant with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of supporting documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Collaborate with other departments to obtain necessary information and resolve discrepancies.
- Carry out ad-hoc finance tasks as required by the Finance Manager.
- Assist in preparation, review and analysis of the monthly management accounts for the Group Company, including profit and loss reports, providing commentary and analysis.
- Assist in forecasting
- Assist in the production of annual overheads budget
- Support the wider finance team and provide cover as when required
- Assist in operating and improving internal controls within finance
- Ad hoc projects as and when required by senior management
- Supporting month-end processes
- Producing accurate financial information to strict deadlines
- The role holder will undertake all tasks within their level of skill and ability that are commensurate with the post.
What skills are we looking for?
The successful candidate must have previous experience working within an accounts or finance assistant role and possess a strong understanding of accounting principles. You will have experience reconciling control accounts and preparing accounts to trial balance, with excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Strong organisational and time management skills are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team. You will also possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate must have a relevant accounting qualification, such as AAT or IATI, however it is not essential. In addition to strong technical accounting knowledge, you will demonstrate a proactive and professional approach, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and supporting the wider finance function. A willingness to learn, develop, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team would be highly advantageous.
